Image warping caused by heat-induced turbulence

Fri, 2019-03-01

The cause for warping in images captured with line scan cameras due to heat induced turbulence is explained and a method for measuring the magnitude of the distortion is described. An example measurement with the illumination as heat source is presented and used to determine the expected magnitude of the distortion to be in the subpixel range. The use of fans for the mitigation of this effect is recommended.
